Our Story

Backroad Beekeeping founders Jace and Sara Becker were born and raised in the golden state of California, where they have been immersed in the world of honeybees for the past 13 years

Jace's great grandfather began beekeeping in California back in 1919, with a few beehives and a desire for raw honey. Today Jace is the fourth-generation beekeeper in his family and has been learning the business ever since he tasted his first drop of golden honey. Jace grew up sitting on his father's lap and driving the forklift, moving bees on the family ranch. Beekeeping has come a long way since then, developing from a family hobby to a fully operational family business.

For Sara, crafting and designing products from the hive has become a passion. Before deciding on a specific product or ingredient, she thinks about how it will be used and the way it can enhance someone’s life. Once she’s ready to craft a product, she only sources natural, purposeful elements to create beneficial and irresistible blends and designs.

Since graduating from college, Jace & Sara have created their own niche within the world of bees, known today as Backroad Beekeeping. Surrounded by a family of generational beekeepers, they have learned a thing or two about the importance of tradition and heritage. But they're here to recreate the wheel, shake things up, stir the pot.

While they honor the hard work and dedication their family has illustrated through their passion for beekeeping, they believe they have something new to add to the table. Their vision is a mix of the new world and old - it's modern and dynamic, with a nod to the past. Each product is reinvented and hand-designed to merge the traditional with the contemporary.

Jace and Sara look forward to sharing their vision, signature honey, and hand-crafted products from the hive with you.

Our Honeybees

Our honeybees spend their days foraging among the diverse California Wildflowers that can be found in lush spring meadows and along lazy summer rivers

Growing the family business to over 10,000 beehives has been years in the making and we couldn’t have done it without keeping the health & happiness of our honeybees as the most important part of our job. Careful thought and consideration is put into each and every beehive. We know that without healthy bees, we wouldn’t have the luxury of pure honey and fresh bee pollen.

Happy, healthy beehives spend their days foraging for nectar and pollen. The growth patterns of wildflowers fluctuates greatly year after year and drastically influences the flavor profile of our raw wildflower honey. An amazing phenomenon about honeybees is that we cannot control which flowers they visit. One hive might visit vibrant poppies, lupine, and clover flowers while another is seeking out wild blackberries, roses, and water lilies. All of these unique nectar varieties add something special to the final batch of honey we extract each fall. While our honeybees are dispersed throughout Northern and Central California, the Sacramento Delta region is where a vast majority of our beehives reside. Head south of Sacramento, take a right at the green bridge, and follow the river into wine country and you’re bound to find a few of our honeybees out and about.
