Treat Yo’self: Simple, Fun Examples of Self-Care to Do At Home

While sheltering in place at home can lead to your ultimate state of productivity….or not, it’s an excellent time to make self-care a priority so you can emerge from the pandemic calm, refreshed, and ready to take on what’s next.

Fuel Your Body

Caring for yourself starts at the core and it’s easy for us as humans to throw all caution to the wind in our nutrition while being cooped in at home.

Keeping it simple by being conscious of including fruits and veggies into each daily meal can go a long way because when you eat good, you feel good.

A simple staple for part of a breakfast or a snack can be a smoothie packed with vital nutrients to get your dose in a fun and convenient drink. Try adding spinach to your fruit smoothies for an extra punch of greens without the taste and definitely do not forget to sprinkle some fresh Backroad Beekeeping Bee Pollen on top for an added antioxidant boost! For a super simple smoothie, try this combining these pantry-friendly ingredients in your blender:

1/2 a frozen banana

1 handful of berries

1 handful of greens

8-12 oz of any milk or water

……….and wa-la!

Not into smoothies but are looking for more ways to use your fresh bee pollen? Try throwing a few shakes on your salad or any other cold dish your craving! For an easy kale salad recipe, try coating the kale in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, salt and pepper and massage it in until the leaves aren’t so stiff. Then add avocado, any protein, parmesan, and a few shakes of bee pollen on top and you’re good to go!

Stay Connected to Your Tribe

Nothing seems to be harder about this pandemic than keeping distance from friends and family members that you value most. It’s so crucial to stay connected by calling and Facetiming the people in your life to not only catch up but to make things seem a lot less lonely and to regain your sense of community.

There are also tons of new and innovative ways to stay connected with technology that can spice up your average call. If you’re really missing those recharging happy hours with your friends or coworkers, try putting on your own virtual happy hour on Facetime or Zoom. Grab a cocktail, put together your favorite charcuterie snack (don’t forget some raw honey!), and get to chatting.

Another platform that has recently become popular and is a super fun way to connect with your friends and family remotely is the Houseparty app. While using Houseparty, you don't only have a platform to have conference-style chats, you also have multiple interactive games to choose from that you can play with your group. From HeadsUp to an outrageous card matching game similar to Apples to Apples, it’s sure to feel like a party.

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t absolutely love receiving something in the mail? Try getting crafty and making a card to surprise your loved ones or send them a little something to show up at their doorstep. You can find some creative ideas for card designs on Pinterest and let your creativity take hold. Whether it be for a birthday, comforting someone who is going through a hard time or even just to say hi.

Pamper Yourself

Sometimes the only thing you need to get through a long day quarantined at home is some me-time.

Staying mindful during this uncertain time has helped many and for good reason. Engaging in practices such as meditation or breathwork can greatly help soothe anxiety, give mental clarity and even improve your mood. If you’re not sure where to start, guided meditation apps such as Headspace and Calm are super helpful ways to stay zen at home.
